Joey Tkach
Performer, Teacher, Composer
Joey Tkach is a Master of Music degree candidate at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where he studies trumpet with Jim Wilt of the LA Philharmonic. Joey was named a winner in the Ictus International Music Competition, the Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition, and the ensemble divisions of the National Trumpet Competition in 2017, 2018, and 2019. In addition, he was awarded 2nd Prize in both the Undergraduate and Graduate Solo Divisions of the National Trumpet Competition in 2018 and 2021 respectively. Joey made his Carnegie Hall debut in Weill Recital Hall in 2018 as a soloist and chamber musician after winning the Semper Pro Musica Competition at Baylor University. Previously, Joey studied with Wiff Rudd at Baylor University.
Joey’s recent highlights include solo appearances with the Colburn Conservatory Orchestra, the Adirondack Performing Arts Fellowship Orchestra, as well as with the 2021 Honor Bands of the 75th Annual Midwest Band Clinic, Leander and Vandegrift High School. He has also made a guest appearance with Indy/Americana folk band “Days and Nights” on their most recent 2020 recording session at “The Farm”, and has more studio work on the horizon with an unnamed Jazz Fusion ensemble.
Joey is currently working as a private lesson teacher through the “Jumpstart” program offered through the Community School at Colburn, which offers music education to young people who come from a families of low socieoeconomic status. Additionally, Joey is currently involved with the Adirondack Performing Arts Fellowship at Camp-of-the-Woods in the summertime and has served as both the Jazz Coordinator and Staff Music Arranger, fullfilling a range of duties that spans from providing music for various ensembles to leading the Big Band and Jazz Combo, in addition to performing in solo and chamber settings, and in a wide variety of styles ranging from Christian Contemporary Music and other commercial styles to orchestral standards and solo rep.
